Crescent Moon
Crescent moon with beautiful Earthshine.
The reflected Earth light visible on the Moon's night side is most easily seen on a young moon . A jet and it's contrail are visible just to the right of the moon.

Central National Bank
Back in the day this was the "30 Rock" of Richmond. Now its a vacant relic in a sketchy part of town. Too bad, the architecture is beautiful.
The Central National Bank building is an Art Deco skyscraper located in Richmond, Virginia. Completed in 1929.

North of Forever
October is the fallen leaf, but it is also a wider horizon
more clearly seen. It is the distant hills once more in sight,
and the enduring constellations above them once again.

Blackrock Summit Sunset
Blackrock Mountain trail emerges from a dense forest onto a jumble of boulders. In the fading light and gusty wind this rocky summit looked and felt like something you might see in the Rocky Mountains out west. I tried to capture this feeling in this HDR image with the golden sunlight and the trail leading you upward among the craggy rocks. The black and green splatters on the rocks are Lichens growing in great abundance and verity.

Ridge Road Sunrise
More from the road... This shot was taken heading south on the Blue Ridge Parkway not far from Love Virginia. The texture of the granite road cut, outstretched highway, and golden glow of the mountains in the distance combine to capture the essence of a road trip adventure.

Skyline Drive - Milepost 72
Skyline Drive meanders among the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Driving this highway in the fall is a real feast for the eyes. Rich colors and heavenly views make this ribbon of pavement one of the most beautiful drives in the USA.

Misery
Prison cell interior, Eastern State Penitentiary (ESP)
Many believed that crime is the result of environment, and that solitude will make the criminal regretful and penitent hence the new word, penitentiary. This correctional theory, as practiced here at ESP, will become known as the Pennsylvania System.

Blue Blue Windows
Blue, blue windows behind the stars / Yellow moon on the rise / Big birds flying across the sky / Throwing shadows on our eyes / Leave us / Helpless, helpless ...

Divine Lorraine
Once an amazingly beautiful apartment building and hotel, the Divine Lorraine is now great example of Philadelphia urban decay. This masterpiece of 19th century architecture is also reported to be haunted.

Escape
A view for the inside of one of the Eastern State Penitentiary cells. I enjoyed the rich textures and wonderful light from the overhead skylight but couldn't shake the feeling that I needed to get out, escape...

Bay Fishing
Sunset and the reflection of lights from the Sea Gull Pier on an unusually claim ocean at mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. The pier extends from the southernmost of four man-made Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel islands on US 13 connecting Virginia Beach/Norfolk to Virginia's Eastern Shore.

Haunted
Sleep brings no joy to me.
Remembrance never dies.
My soul is given to mystery,
And lives in sighs.
Sleep brings no rest to me;
The shadows of the dead
My wakening eyes may never see
Surround my bed.
Sleep brings no hope to me,
In soundest sleep they come,
And with their doleful imag'ry
Deepen the gloom.
Sleep brings no strength to me,
No power renewed to brave;
I only sail a wilder sea,
A darker wave.
Sleep brings no friend to me
to soothe and aid to bear;
They all gaze on, how scornfully,
And I despair.
Sleep brings no wish to fret
My harassed heart beneath;
My only wish is to forget
In endless sleep of death.
From The Horrors of Sleep by Emily Bronte

These old prison cells retain a felling of dread and a sense of the tortured souls that occupied them not so long ago.

Philadelphia -- City of Brotherly Love
Affectionately known as "Philly", located along the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers about 80 miles southwest of New York City. It's the 5th most populous city in the US and without a doubt the Cheesesteak capitol of the world. Mmmm Cheesesteak...

No Escape
Deep in this prison there is a feeling no escape. Cruel walls of stone and steel still hold some part of those who were held here.
